Friday morning storms, summery weekend
Another batch of strong to severe storms arrives in the metro early Friday. The storms produce more severe weather risk as they make the southeast along I-94 and eventually into the Twin Cities.
Heat and storms build through Friday
That hum you hear is the chorus of air conditioning units kicking in. Heat and humidity are on the increase as an increasingly tropical air mass oozes north into Minnesota over the next 48 hours.

I'm watching some changes in the atmosphere that suggest we may be entering a new phase of summer across Minnesota. There are hints the heart of summer and summer's peak heat could be ahead in the next few weeks. The maps continue to hint that a possible early August heat wave may be brewing.

Confirmed EF-1 tornado with 105 mph winds near Watertown
The Twin Cities National Weather Service confirms an EF1 tornado with 105 mph winds touched down for 3 minutes last night near Watertown in Carver County. Debris signatures were detected in the air on the Chanhassen Doppler as the tornado tore through western Carver County.
