“Normally at this point in the year we should be at almost 33 inches of snow and we only have 14 [inches],” Dye said. “We still have some catching up to do, but being it’s only early February, there’s plenty of time.”
Slick roads overnight may have contributed to crashes.
The Minnesota State Patrol reports the following number of crashes from midnight - 7:45 a.m. on Sunday: 267 property damage crashes, 21 injury crashes, 142 vehicles off road, 30 spin outs, and 1 jackknifed semi.
Officials advise using caution when traveling.
“A lot of times people are saying, ‘I’m driving the speed limit,’” said Lieutenant Mike Lee, a state patrol spokesperson. “But again, it’s not so much a number. It’s ‘Are you driving for the conditions? Are you driving in a manner which you can maintain control your vehicle at all times?’”
The fresh snow was welcome news for the Luminary Loppet, at Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis on Saturday. The group’s spokesperson said Saturday’s fluffy precipitation would contribute to a “stunning” event.
