A beautiful spring day for the metro

By Laura Betker

You know that old saying about April showers, that one rings true with this week’s forecast. So when there is blue sky above, take advantage of the sunshine.

Today is one of the sunny days. With relatively calm winds and temperatures near seasonal averages in the middle 50s, it’s a darn nice day. The average high is 58.

Tonight’s low stays above freezing near 37 degrees with clear skies.

For Sunday morning plans, I have good news. There should be a good amount of sun to start the day but clouds will fill in and eventually bring showers. But it isn’t until about supper time that the rain begins in the metro. It’ll be moving in from the south so folks that have plans in southern, especially southeastern Minnesota may run into rain earlier, but still after brunch time.

Sunday will be a breezy day with highs near 60.

Sunday night into Monday then we get our most organized rain system of the week. We aren’t looking at severe weather or really much thunderstorm activity at all. But it’ll be a cold rain with winds. Monday’s highs are also near 60, but with wind, rain and clouds it’ll feel much different. Expect around a half inch, with some higher totals in the eastern and southern burbs.

Heaviest rain totals are anticipated for the east and southern metro where much of western and northern Minnesota will stay dry all day, skipping this round.

Several more chances for rain roll through in the week ahead, but these are all far less organized and with lower totals than Monday’s rain.
