A growing number of state residents are paying up to half their income for a place to live and one of the primary solutions for addressing the problem - building affordable housing - has run aground for lack of financing.
Minnesotans have reduced spending on food, cut back on retirement savings, and taken in friends or relatives in response to the recession, according to a new survey.
Earlier this week, U.S. Special Forces killed a man U.S. intelligence said was the link between an Islamic militia in Somalia and al-Qaida in Pakistan. But he also had a connection to the U.S. that has not been reported: He was a senior instructor for new al-Shabab recruits, including a handful of young Somali-Americans from Minneapolis.

Norman Borlaug won the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in combating world hunger. He died Saturday at the age of 95. Borlaug graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1937, and continued to be involved with the university throughout his life.
