Did the historic flooding on Rainy Lake this summer have to be so bad? 
The historic flooding on Rainy Lake this summer has been driven by record-setting spring rains that fell on top of a late-melting winter snowpack. But many residents believe that more could have been done to prevent the worst impacts of the flooding. 
WELY was slated to shut down on June 1, but there are efforts in Ely to save its beloved community radio station. Roger Skraba is the mayor of Ely and one of the people working to keep WELY alive. He joined host Cathy Wurzer to share some of the latest updates on his efforts.

About 250 homes have suffered some sort of damage on the south shore of Rainy Lake, east of International Falls on the Minnesota-Canadian border. It’s a slow-motion crisis that may not start to ebb until mid to late June.
Weather Service confirms several tornadoes touched down Monday in Minnesota
Confirmed tornadoes included one with 120 mph winds that damaged dozens of homes in the small town of Forada, near Alexandria. There were no reports of serious injuries or deaths from Monday's storms.
