Art Hounds: Pine City blues
This week, Art Hounds recommend the play “The Pavilion” at Lyric Arts in Anoka, the Afro-Atlantic Playwright Festival at Illusion Theater in Minneapolis, and Owen Brown's interactive exhibit “Myriorama” at the Veronique Wantz Gallery in Minneapolis.
Art Hounds: Two MCAD grads
Art Hounds recommend two annual fall events this weekend: the Sogn Valley Art Fair in Cannon Falls and the Iranian Culture Festival, “Mehtegan: A Persian Celebration of Love, Kindness and Hope” in St. Paul. Roshan Ganu and Ivonne Yáñez each shine with solo shows at the Rochester Art Center.
Art Hounds: Bike shop textile art
A multi-sensory show in Owatonna Center for the Arts asks what legacy we create. 1950s rock ‘n roll comes to life in the musical “Million Dollar Quartet” at the Old Log Theatre near Excelsior, and Eric Ouren’s fiber art figures reward a close look at a bike shop in St Peter.
Art Hounds: Shows that forge connections across the table — and across oceans
Sod House Theater hosts “Table.” In Winona, two artists living in Iran and Minnesota use virtual reality and mixed media to share their lives with each other. And Ananya Dance Theatre presents “Michhil Amra: We Are the Procession!”
Art Hounds: Finding wonder in Bigfork
Terry Leinbach’s abstract show “Wonder” lives up to its name at the Edge Gallery in Bigfork. “The (Almost) Complete and (Mostly) Accurate History of Alcohol” offers laughs and food for thought at Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis. Poets & Pints marks its 100th poetry reading Sept. 20 at Sisyphus Brewing in Minneapolis.
Art Hounds: Outdoor opera and a one-person show with a rotating cast
Art Hounds recommend the one-person play “Naive Super” at Norway House, in which the actor changes with every performance. Mixed Precipitation’s Pickup Truck Opera wraps up its traveling summer performances of Charles Gounod’s opera “Romeo and Juliet” at several outdoor metro locations.
Art Hounds: Murals, molten metal and memories
This week’s Art Hounds recommend the Downtown Minneapolis Street Art Festival, Caponi Art Park’s “Hot Art” event, and the Kate Nobbe exhibition in Minneapolis’ North Loop.
Art Hounds: Duluth goes country
This week, the Art Hounds recommend a Jewish makers market, a women-centered variety show and an outdoor country music concert.
