Art Hounds celebrate milestones of life
Jim Denomie’s exhibit “Sweet Dreams” in Stillwater is a tribute to the artist, who passed away in March. The Rochester Chamber Music Society celebrates jazz musician and composer John Paulson with a free concert. Minneapolis songwriter Jesse Norell releases his concept album “Aorta Borealis” about his daughter. 
Art Hounds: Classical music from around the world, and from the world of video games
On this week’s Art Hounds: Renowned pipa player Gao Hong of Northfield celebrates 50 years of performing with friends at the Ordway. The six-player band Maithree uses traditional Indian instruments to celebrate “the music of friendship.” The Video Games and Music Convention in Minneapolis offers two days of live music and a chance to jam to video game tunes.
Art Hounds: Iron Range musicians jam and a new theater company opens in St. Paul
Art Hounds this week recommend you check out: The Mariah Theatre Company opening in St. Paul with the debut of Patrick Coyle’s play, “The Big Blue River;” a showcase of Iron Range musicians at the Ore House in Gilbert; and a surreal exhibit of thrift store furniture at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter.

Bucket Brigade times the end of its 10th anniversary run of “Till Death: A Marriage Musical” to Valentine’s Day. Theatre in the Round stages “Marjorie Prime,” an award-winning play that brings a sci-fi lens to aging and memory. And singer/songwriter John Gorka performs at the State Theatre in Zumbrota.

Art Hounds recommend fighting cabin fever by taking in the colorful visual arts exhibit “Vivid Survival” in Red Wing. Or, tour the varied and moving multimedia show “Like Me, Like You” by the Twin Ports APIDA Collective in Duluth. There’s also the classic steampunk film “Filibus,” complete with live, original piano accompaniment by Katie Condon.
