Art Hounds: Mankato gallery highlights art from Scholars Serving Time

The Minnesota Fringe festival kicks off Thursday. The 410 Project in Mankato launches its exhibit “Art Inside,” featuring paintings and drawings by art students at the Faribault Men’s Correctional Facility. NDN Way Comedy brings together three Native American stand-up comics for a night of laughs at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy.

Art Hounds: Art conversations across generations

There’s still time to catch Art to Change the World’s “Age of Age” exhibit, which asks artists a generation apart to create work together. A concert performance of Janet Preus’s original musical “Water from Snow” draws big Minneapolis names to Puposky, Minn. In Duluth, Ojibwe storytime invites kids of all ages twice a week through August.

Art Hounds celebrate community theater and music

Theatre 55 stages “Jesus Christ Superstar” in the open-air at Caponi Art Park amphitheater in Eagan. The Minnesota Mandolin Orchestra performs in several upcoming shows around the Twin Cities. Participants make the drama happen in “The Show Must Go On,” an escape room set at Daleko Arts in New Prague.

Art Hounds: Northern Spark returns; Ta-coumba Aiken's abstract art on display

Guggenheim fellow artist Ta-coumba T. Aiken has a solo show, “Awakenings,” at Dreamsong Gallery. Northern Spark returns to the Frogtown and Rondo neighborhoods, with a sunrise event on Raspberry Island. The Lakeshore Players close out their season with a 10-minute play festival running through Sunday.

Art Hounds: Bakken Trio performs with crowd-sourced puppet story

Carolyn Kleinberger’s large portraits allow the viewer to get “Up Close from a Distance” at Hopkins Center for the Arts. The Bakken trio closes its season with Pavel Haas’ “From the Monkey Mountains” — featuring a puppet performance from Z Puppets Rosenschnoz. Duluth abstract painter David Austin paints live on Instagram on Saturdays.

Art Hounds: Photographer's art reflects on parenthood and the pandemic

Form + Content Gallery in Minneapolis celebrates 15 years with its “Thoughtful Dialogue” exhibit. Photographer Andy Richter’s exhibit “Walking with Julien” is on view both at Artspace Jackson Flats in Minneapolis and on storefronts in Northeast Minneapolis where the photographs were taken. And Duluth Dylan Fest caps the city’s “Year of Dylan” with a week-long festival of music.
