Continued dry spell makes this one of the driest Octobers in state history

The average total precipitation across Minnesota since the end of August reached just over a half-inch. That’s more than 3 inches below normal.

“We’re flirting there with the top five driest [Octobers] in in state history, which is remarkable,” said climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley.

That’s a complete reversal from the summer, which saw record rainfall.

Seeley spoke with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke about the drought in their weekly weather chat.
