March is starting off warmer than usual and the heat has already smashed dozens of records for the month.

“We had over 50 daily high temperature records set on Monday,” said meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley on Morning Edition.

That same Monday, Redwood Falls in the southwestern part of the state made the biggest splash. The city reached a new all-time-state high record for this time of year at 75 degrees Fahrenheit.

But that heat is expected to get quelled as storms move in Friday with the chance of turning into blizzards in some parts of the state.

”Even though the Twin Cities is not necessarily targeted for a lot of snow, tomorrow morning, the high winds will be pretty evident.” Seeley said.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Seeley about the high winds and hot weather in their weekly weather chat. Click the player above to listen to the full conversation.
