Morning Edition: Music

The song was written by producer Jim Steinman, perhaps best known for his collaborations with Meat Loaf. At the time, he was working on a musical about Nosferatu, and says he originally envisioned "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as a vampire love song.
After Cochran finished recording it, the feeling in the studio was that the song didn't sound quite rock and roll enough. He had the idea to change "Let's Get Together" in the lyrics and title to "C'mon Everybody."
When the album was released he wrote: "Our perceptions of who we are as human beings, because of technology and machines, are falling apart. We're living at a breaking point, and a lot of the themes on the album are talking about these fault lines."
Fans of John Lennon are digging into the new boxed set "Imagine: The Ultimate Collection," which came out on Friday. The set includes demos, outtakes, films and remastered tracks from the creation of Lennon's second solo album, originally released in 1971.
The musical "Girl From the North Country" opened at the Public Theater in New York this week to rave reviews. The show uses Bob Dylan's songs to tell the story of the desperate tenants of a boardinghouse in Duluth as they cope with winter during the Great Depression.
The lyrics were inspired by the paintings of Marc Chagall, and describe a dream in which a man paints his hands blue and flies through the sky -- "blue painted in blue." The song was the No. 1 single of 1958 and has been covered by many artists.
