As Democrats celebrate top leaders including Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Republicans in the state want to remind voters of Walz’s record of what they term excessive spending and regulations. Meanwhile, get out the vote campaigns ramp up.
Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan helped gavel in the Democratic National Convention Monday night in Chicago. And one of the officers who held George Floyd down while Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck is being released from prison Tuesday. 
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan is set to deliver the first of the welcoming remarks to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago as Gov. Tim Walz prepares to accept the party’s nomination for vice president. Flanagan is one of the co-chairs of the convention. And, Minnesota remembers George Latimer, who served as mayor of St. Paul from the late 70s to 1990. Latimer was 89.
The Democratic National Convention gets underway Monday in Chicago. With Gov. Tim Walz as Kamala Harris' vice presidential candidate, the Minnesota delegation will get preferred seating and a lot more attention than it otherwise would.
The overall number of reported violent crime in Minnesota last year was lower than the previous year, according to the latest data released today by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. And investigators suspect that a semi-truck driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he struck four other vehicles near Duluth this week and killed four people.

CBS News says Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has agreed to a debate on Oct. 1. Republican JD Vance, former President Donald Trump's running mate, has not yet agreed to that date. And anti-war protesters gathered at a meeting of the State Board of Investment Wednesday to again call on Minnesota elected leaders to cut financial ties to Israel amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
