DNR removing old dams at slow pace
Minnesota has 1,300 small dams on its rivers and streams. The DNR says at least 100 of them should be repaired, torn down or modified to improve fish habitat. The agency is in a race against time to fix the dams before more of them fail.

Researchers are collecting samples of Didymo, an alga, to try to determine why it has choked out life in streams in South Dakota and New Zealand, but is relatively harmless in Lake Superior.
The great journey
Animals are constantly on the move to ensure the survival of their species, from the spontaneous wildebeest migration in East Africa to the southward flight of geese from Minnesota. Scientists are now learning more than they ever knew about how and why animals migrate, and how obstacles to migration could impact different species.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and several residents confirm seeing the moose. The moose was reported in the river bottom area in Springfield several days ago, then was seen near Seaforth on Sunday.
