There's a risk of scattered thunderstorms developing later today from northwest to central Minnesota. The rest of the week looks to favor dry skies and comfortable temperatures.

After a bumpy night, pleasant outlook Tuesday

As severe weather rolled through Minnesota Monday afternoon and evening, many parts of Hennepin county reported large hail. But Chisago county may have seen the largest: Three inch diameter hail was reported around 5 p.m. near Rush City. That’s about the diameter of a tennis ball! Golf ball-sized hail was observed in Plymouth around 4 p.m.…

Thunderstorms are expected to erupt this afternoon, mainly over eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Some may produce winds to 60 mph and 1-inch diameter hail.

Our forecast looks quiet through Saturday as a bubble of weak high pressure drifts overhead. By Sunday a weak low pressure system drifts in from Canada triggering a few scattered thundershowers.

Summer’s finest? Aurora watch

It will be worth a look tonight to see if northern lights appear. The increasingly bright waxing moon will limit viewing. I have my doubts we'll see a show comparable to Monday's nights amazing display.

Weather perfection? Strongest geomagnetic storm in a decade

Mixed sunshine, highs near 80 degrees, comfortable humidity. Throw in spectacular northern lights shows and we may have achieved weather nirvana.
