While the police department works to make court-mandated changes and replenish its ranks with new hires, neighbors anxiously await transformation. But that task is a steeper climb in the 3rd Precinct, where George Floyd was murdered, turning the neighborhood into an epicenter of unrest.

Minneapolis residents say they feel left behind in city's efforts post unrest

The murder of George Floyd by then-police officer Derek Chauvin, sparked state and federal investigations that found what many residents - especially people of color - had known for years:  That the Minneapolis police department engaged in a pattern and practice of biased policing.  

Specifically, that officers who abused their power were rarely disciplined and that across the department, officers inflicted disproportionate, excessive and at times deadly force against Black and Native American residents.
