Storm system that walloped Minnesota created multiple tornadoes elsewhere

For many in Minnesota, the recent storm slammed the state with its heaviest snowfall of the season.

“It was a pretty large scale system nationally,” said climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley on Friday’s Morning Edition. “They had six tornadoes, I think, in Oklahoma, out of that storm system.”

The cities of Jordan, Owatonna and Wells in southern Minnesota saw record-setting amounts of snow, ranging from 7 to 10 inches of snow. But it won’t last on the ground, Seeley said, adding that the second half of March is likely to be warmer and wetter.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Seeley about the heavy snowfall in their weekly weather chat. Click the player to hear the entire conversation.
