Report: Hennepin County shelters are filling up, but the county isn’t tracking who it turns away

January is historically a busy time for shelters in Minnesota, as temperatures dip well below zero and folks search for refuge from the cold.

But Hennepin County has stopped tracking how many people they’re turning away during the day, according to reporting from the Minnesota Star Tribune.

That means it’s harder to know just how many people need a place to sleep in the county — and whether the county's resources match up.
