Moorhead Schools pass bond referendum 3 to 1 in favor

Voters approved a $110 million bond issue to build a new high school and career academy in Moorhead.

With 5,458 voting in favor, the support for the bond passed with 75.6 percent of the vote, compared to 1,754 votes against the bond issuance.

“We are so grateful to our community for their support of our students, our staff and our schools,” Moorhead Superintendent Brandon Lunak said. “This is the culmination of an extensive community-driven high school facilities planning process involving over 150 community members who worked hard to develop a plan that would best address student needs.”

The bond referendum will rebuild the high school to help address student capacity needs, and develop a career academy at the former Sam’s Club facility.

For the Moorhead City Council, Larry Seljevold will represent the city’s third ward, taking 33.6 percent of the vote with 654 votes. Seljevold served on the council for one term in 1998, and is a retired physical education teacher.

Steve Lindaas will take the fourth ward seat on the city council, with 744 votes taking 41.7 percent of the vote. Lindaas is the chairman of Minnesota State University Moorhead physics and astronomy department.
