A fleeing driver was killed in a multi-car crash in Chaska on Tuesday evening.
The Carver County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a driver weaving across the lane on Highway 212 and County Road 51, between Young America and Cologne.
A deputy caught up to a BMW 335i near Cologne and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled eastbound on Highway 212 with the deputy in pursuit. The car got off the road at Highway 41, and crashed at the intersection, in a collision involving five other vehicles.
The fleeing driver, 40-year-old James Erickson, of St. Paul, died at the scene.
The Patrol said Erickson wasn't wearing a seat belt, but that all the other drivers were. They received medical attention, but none of the injuries were believed to be life threatening. The State Patrol is investigating the crash.
