This month a U.S. federal grand jury indicted 13 Russians and three Russian organizations in connection with an attack on the 2016 presidential election.
The Mueller investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election has spawned fierce political debates. Democrats and Republicans have released competing memos concerning the investigation. Meanwhile Russia continues their disinformation campaigns. And, according to a recent CNN poll, 70 percent of Americans are somewhat or very concerned about these campaigns aimed at U.S. voters.
What tactics are Russians using? And how can the US protect the upcoming 2018 midterms?
Russia and information warfare expert Molly McKew of Fianna Strategies is involved in work to educate Americans on how to recognize Russian propaganda online and in their social media feeds.
"We probably need to develop a little more cynicism in how we are viewing and consuming information," McKew said. "The question is much harder than, 'Is this true or not?' It is, 'What is the purpose of this information?'"
