Meet Kerri Miller
Kerri Miller is the host of Big Books & Bold Ideas and Talking Volumes on MPR News.
Before joining MPR News, Kerri spent time in both radio and TV news around the country. Her first job in radio was as an overnight DJ and newscaster in Dallas, Texas, and her first job as a television reporter was at the ABC affiliate in Tulsa, Okla. When she put her favorite Tornado Alley twister news coverage on her resume tape, it caught the eye of a news director at KSTP-TV and she moved to Minnesota. She then worked at KARE-11 where she was the political reporter based at the State Capitol before joining MPR News in 2004.
Kerri has been a dedicated and enthusiastic book lover from the time she could borrow 10 Nancy Drew mysteries at a time from her local public library. Reaching out to kindred readers and bringing the voices of authors to listeners is fun and deeply fulfilling for her. She has interviewed hundreds of authors over her time at MPR News, including Kate DiCamillo, Louise Erdrich, Maya Angelou, Joan Didion, Stephen King, Isabel Allende, Ann Patchett, Colson Whitehead and Jacqueline Woodson, to name a few.
Kerri has won numerous awards and distinctions for her work, including the National Award for Public Service Journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists and two Gracie Awards from the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television.
Kerri has a bachelor’s degree in English literature with a minor in journalism. Her favorite Minnesota hiking experience is the Shingobee Trail in Walker because of its six miles of fragrant forest land and beautiful views.
You can find Kerri Miller on LinkedIn and at Siren Sojourns.
