School shootings are becoming a regular occurrence in America. Is there anything that can be done to make schools safer? Two school security experts, including the mother of a Sandy Hook victim, weighed in about what can be done to protect students in an era of mass shootings.

During the live broadcast of this show, MPR News Host Kerri Miller quoted an Everytown for Gun Safety statistic that counted the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as the 18th school shooting so far this year.

The number is accurate, but needs some context around it. Everytown for Gun Safety counts every shooting that happened on school premises, no matter the time of day or how many people were present or harmed.
