Voter registration in Minnesota is at an all time high, elections officials say.
Early indications are that the state may pass 3 million votes this fall for the first time.
Preregistration for this fall's elections closed last Tuesday, three weeks before voting starts. But its taken days to double check the new registrations and process all the information.
Minnesota secretary of state Mark Ritchie said the state has already set a new record of around 3.2 million voters registered prior to an election.
"We know we are beyond the all time record number of preregistered people. Of course, Minnesota has grown, so that would be normal. We are also at the highest percent we've ever been. I think as of today, it's about 86 [percent], so we will go up above that record of eligible voters."
About one or two hundred thousand people are expected to register on Election Day.
