An attorney says a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in an Ohio voter case likely means the Wisconsin GOP has no role in a similar case here.
Ohio Republicans sued to force state election officials to give names of registered voters who didn't pass identity checks to counties. The Supreme Court said on Friday private entities probably don't have standing.
Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has filed a lawsuit demanding Wisconsin election officials verify the identity of thousands of registered voters before Election Day. The state GOP is a plaintiff.
State attorney Lester Pines says the Supreme Court ruling means the state GOP has no standing. GOP officials couldn't immediately be reached for comment. Van Hollen's spokesman says the decision means nothing to them.
