Minneapolis is now “Swiftieapolis.” At least for this weekend. Mayor Jacob Frey declared the temporary name change as the city prepares to welcome crowds of about half a million people attending Twin Cities Pride and Taylor Swift concerts. In a letter sent to Target CEO Brian Cornell by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and 14 other attorneys general, the group says they "stand ready to help address any anti-LGBTQIA+ threats and harassment in Target stores." The Minnesota-based company was criticized for some items the store was carrying for Pride month by several conservative groups. The company pulled some items from stores after employees received threats.
A proposal to convert a natural gas plant in central Minnesota to burn diesel fuel oil is sparking some opposition. Green River Energy says the change would provide flexibility during times when natural gas isn’t available or its price spikes, but environmental groups say it would increase air pollution.
Minneapolis police said the victims were all in a vehicle that was hit. An initial account from police said a suspect vehicle had been “observed” by a state trooper on the freeway, but said the crash happened before that trooper attempted a traffic stop.
