Meet Matthew Alvarez
Matthew Alvarez is a producer for MPR News.
Matt is a versatile producer for MPR News, contributing to “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered,” “Politics Friday” and “Climate Cast.”
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Matt attended multiple colleges in the Lone Star State. His passion for producing radio content began in 2011 at his college station, KTSW, and he eventually graduated from Texas State University in 2013.
Matt’s professional career began in 2014 with Audacy Inc. (formerly Entercom) in Austin, Texas. He later moved to Iowa Public Radio, where he worked as a talk show producer on “River to River” and “Talk of Iowa.” He further honed his skills at the Transom Story Workshop in 2019. In 2022, he moved to Minnesota, where he now lives with his wife. Together, they enjoy exploring new restaurants and historic neighborhoods.
Matt’s work has earned accolades including the Eric Sevareid Award in 2021 from the Midwest Broadcast Journalist Association (MBJA) for “Using the Power of Art to Create Empathy and Change.” He also earned recognition from PMJA for "A Frank Conversation About Preventing Youth Suicide".
