Trump, Biden surrogates bring campaign messages to Minnesota
Minnesota is getting extra attention from the campaigns of Donald Trump and Joe Biden this week. Donald Trump Jr. led a “Make America Great Again” rally in Duluth on Wednesday night. Jill Biden spent about an hour Wednesday morning touring an elementary school in Prior Lake and meeting education leaders in Minnesota.

Minnesota man rescued after 4 days trapped under fallen tree
The 59-year-old was cutting down oak trees Aug. 27 near Redwood Falls when a one of them fell and landed on his legs, according to the Redwood County Sheriff's Office. He was found Monday in a ravine about 100 yards from his house with both of his legs pinned.
In Duluth, shoring up Superior's encroachment on Park Point
For the past several years, cities and property owners along the Great Lakes have been battered by big storms and high water. That includes the Duluth neighborhood of Park Point, the 7-mile sand spit that juts out into Lake Superior from downtown. Now there’s an effort to rebuild it. 
Witnesses told deputies a group of children had been swimming near the dam when some of them were caught up in the churning water that was coming over the dam. The water level at the dam was considerably higher due to the large amount of rain recently, according to officials.
Once unwanted, historic bridge now pursued by suitors
For roughly 30 years, the Kern Bridge sat unused, unstable and unwanted. But fans of the bowstring-arch bridge never stopped trying to save it from collapse. Last year, funding was obtained to dismantle it and put it in storage in the hopes that someone somewhere might want to reassemble it as a pedestrian bridge. Turns out there was.
‘She was a legend’: Quetico ranger remembered for her guidance, grit
Janice Matichuk, the longest-serving interior ranger in the history of Quetico Provincial Park, died last week from brain cancer. For 35 years she greeted canoeists crossing from the Boundary Waters into Canada at the remote Cache Bay Ranger station, on a small island on Saganaga Lake, at the end of the Gunflint Trail.
Duluth schools recommend combination of in-person and distance learning
Duluth schools officials are recommending that elementary students start the year in school, with older students attending class primarily online. The school board meets Thursday to consider the proposal.
