Three large timber companies have sued
the Minnesota government, saying the state reneged on contracts for
a forest protection program by capping payments as lawmakers
attempted to balance the budget.
The U.S. Agriculture Department says farmers will be allowed to grow genetically modified sugar beets this year, while it
finishes work on a full environmental impact statement on the
beets' effect on other crops and the environment.
The Minnesota Department of Revenue
says a computer glitch is responsible for delaying tax refunds for
thousands of Minnesotans who filed electronically.
