Minn. nursing home program minimizes medication
A nursing home in Duluth is one of more than a dozen in Minnesota participating in a program called Awakenings, the goal of which is to wean residents, especially those with dementia, off nonessential drugs that might be robbing them of their personalities and harming them physically.
The two sides have been negotiating for nearly nine months. The union says the main sticking points have been staffing levels, scheduling and a management proposal that lumps sick days and vacation days together.
