People in some Minnesota communities are routinely exposed to pesticide drift from nearby farm fields, according to a new study released Thursday. The chemical in question, a commonly used fungicide called chlorothalonil, is under increasing scrutiny.
Researchers for the state Department of Natural Resources have found evidence of petroleum compounds and the chemical used to clean up the oil in the eggs of pelicans nesting in Minnesota.
On June 17, 2010, a dangerous tornado swept through Wadena, Minn., and destroyed a large swath of the town. The local historical society later collected the stories of Wadena residents who lived through the storm.
