At the University of Minnesota today, the Dalai Lama said much human suffering arises from
self-centeredness. But he says one can overcome suffering and achieve happiness by cultivating wisdom and altruism.
The U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden was
understandable, the Dalai Lama said Saturday, yet it also saddened him because of his lifelong commitment to nonviolence.
The Dalai Lama will participate in many events this weekend, including a public address on Sunday afternoon at the University of Minnesota. His speech is entitled "Peace through Inner Peace."
The Dalai Lama is making his first official visit to the Twin Cities since 2001, when he spoke at the University of Minnesota as part of the Carlson Lecture Series.
