Minnesota Public Radio has a sizable newsroom, with reporters all over the state. But even we can't keep up with all the news. So we're calling local experts, reporters from newspapers outside of the metro area, to hear what's happening in their neck of the woods.

Wednesday, host Cathy Wurzer was joined by Laurel Latham, a reporter in far northern Minnesota at the Roseau Times-Region; Mike Creger, who writes for Pine Knot News in Cloquet, Minn., just southeast of Duluth; and Eric Johnson, a reporter and photographer at the Austin Daily Herald.

Latham brought Wurzer news about a 5-mile skate path along the Warroad River that is now the longest in the U.S.

Creger told Wurzer about a COVID patient at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet who fought his way back from the brink as beleaguered hospital staff rallied around him.

And Johnson shared a feel-good story about a hospital patient’s favorite sandwich, a teenage delivery driver and a seven-hour trip (one way!) from Austin, Minn., to St. Louis.
