Police training is on trial in Minnesota
The two Minnesota police officers currently charged with killing Black men have something in common. They both were responsible for training new recruits.
Former Brooklyn Center officer Kim Potter was charged with second degree manslaughter for fatally shooting 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center on Sunday.
The shooting happened as Twin Cities residents were already on edge awaiting a ruling in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who is facing murder charges for kneeling on George Floyd’s neck.
Thursday, MPR News host Kerri Miller spoke with two former officers about the use of force from officers training the next generation of police, what has changed and why we continue to see police encounters end with loss of life.
