Examining the pandemic's toll on mental health and addiction

More than 60 percent of young adults have struggled with symptoms of anxiety or depression over the course of the pandemic, and nearly a quarter of young adults increased their drug or alcohol use, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Psychiatrist Joseph Lee is an expert on addiction who’s written a book aimed at helping the parents of young people in recovery.

Dr. Lee spent more than a decade running Hazelden Betty Ford’s youth programs.

In late June, he’ll take the helm of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation as its president and CEO.

Thursday at 9 a.m., Dr. Lee joined MPR News host Kerri Miller for a wide-ranging conversation about mental health, addiction and the future of recovery.
