Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott made headlines recently when she announced she’d given away $4 billion to national nonprofits.
“This pandemic has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling,” she wrote in a post on Medium announcing her donations. “Economic losses and health outcomes alike have been worse for women, for people of color, and for people living in poverty. Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires.”
Scott is the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. She also helped start the company. According to Forbes, Scott is the third-richest woman in the world.
How will that money help? Host Kerri Miller talked to the president and CEO of the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, one of the Minnesota nonprofits given surprise, unrestricted gifts.
