Can the power of interfaith prayer quell a violent summer? That’s the hope of Don and Sondra Samuels, the organizers of the grass-roots initiative, “Healing Our City.”

On July 1, they set up a prayer tent on the Hawthorne Crossings parking lot at the corner of West Broadway Avenue and Bryant Avenue North in north Minneapolis, to give people of all faiths and races a collective space to grieve, pray and dream.

For the 30 days of July, this African American-led collaborative hopes to have daily silent prayer sessions of 8 minutes and 46 seconds open to the public.

Earlier this week, Don and Sondra spoke with Kerri Miller about their hopes for this month-long prayer event.
