There are an estimated 700,000 young people currently enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, also known as DACA — and today they are breathing a sigh of relief. Thursday morning, the Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s bid to end the program that gives legal protection to immigrants that came to the U.S. illegally as children.

Kerri Miller talked with two immigration experts immediately after the decision was released about their first impressions. The conversation was cut short by live NPR coverage of the ruling.

Guests:

  • Linda Chavez is chair of the Center for Equal Opportunity, a senior fellow at the Niskanen Center, and a former immigration adviser for both the Bush and Reagan administrations.

  • Jennifer Piscopo is an associate professor of politics at Occidental College.
