Music is a powerful force in this world. It’s one way we express our feelings and perceptions of the world around us. It also plays a definitive role in times of protest and unrest. Take, for example, songs like “We Shall Overcome” and the Civil Rights Movement; “Fortunate Son” and the Vietnam War; and Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright” and the Black Lives Matter movement.

On Friday MPR News host Kerri Miller lead a conversation about the ways in which music becomes the soundtrack of resistance and a catalyst for changing minds.
