Bob Mould marks 25 years as a solo artist
"Workbook" was the first solo album released by Bob Mould. When it came out in 1989, fans of Mould's punk rock band Husker Du were surprised by his new softer sound. To mark the 25th anniversary, "Workbook" is being re-released with additional tracks and a second disc featuring a concert recorded in Chicago in 1989. Mould will be performing songs off the album tonight at the Women's Club in Minneapolis.
The latest installment from the North Shore Sessions, a Minnesota-based live music video series, features the Nightingale Trio singing the Ukranian widow's song, "Vdova." The trio made this recording in a cave behind the frozen Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis.

New album celebrates Minnesota lumberjack songs
Twin Cities musician and scholar Brian Miller has been discovering and preserving the songs that lumberjacks in the northern Minnesota woods were singing in the 19th century. Miller and Randy Gosa will perform Friday, Oct. 11 at the Hinckley Fire Museum in Hinckley, Minn. On Saturday, Oct. 12 they will play at a CD release party at the Celtic Junction in St. Paul.
Today is the 78th birthday of singer Jill Corey. Corey was well-known for singing American pop standards during the 1950s. She sang with the Percy Faith Orchestra and was a regular on one of Johnny Carson's first television shows. In 1953, she was featured on the cover of Life magazine and released her first single, "Minneapolis." It was written by Bob Hilliard and Minneapolis-native Sid Lippman. Jill Corey quit show business in 1961 after marrying Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Don Hoak in 1961. She re-started her career after Hoak died of a heart attack in 1969.
