Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who read Updraft. I’m grateful for so many things this year. I feel honored and privileged to be able to forecast and explain our amazing Minnesota weather.
You’re a weather and science-hungry audience and I’m grateful for the opportunity to communicate the weather on Updraft, our daily weather chats and our weekly Climate Cast program on MPR News.
I’m also grateful we have Sven Sundgaard and Mandy Thalhuber as part of our weather team. Good days.
This Thanksgiving weekend will be one of the colder in the record books. Our normal high Thanksgiving Day is around 38 degrees in the Twin Cities. Temperatures this weekend will run a good 10 to nearly 20 degrees below normal.
Thanksgiving Day brings gusty northwest winds and falling temperatures — by 6 p.m. wind chill readings will dip to a few degrees on either side of zero.
Highs temperatures this weekend will hover in the teens.
Overnight minimums will fall below zero in the northwest and the single digits above zero in the Twin Cities!
