Today in Fargo-Moorhead: Snow incoming, county jail inmate allegedly denied food, water
We’re still in the “lion” part of “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.”
Snow is likely Thursday and over the weekend with highs consistently in the upper 20s for most of the week.
The National Weather Service says Thursday’s snow will likely accumulate, but mostly across east central and southeast North Dakota. Areas of northwest North Dakota and west-central Minnesota could see some:
Snowfall will be heaviest in southeast North Dakota into west central Minnesota with up to an 80 percent chance for 4 or more inches. Areas near the South Dakota border could see isolated 6 inches or more. Farther north the snowfall will be less with 60 percent chance of 2 inches or more from New Rockford to Mayville to Park Rapids.
MPR News meteorologist Paul Huttner said, “Most forecast models like the European suggest a band of generally 1 to 3 inches of snow along and either side of the I-94 corridor between Fargo and the Twin Cities.”

A Minnesota Department of Corrections investigation found staff at the county jail in Fergus Falls withheld six consecutive meals from an inmate over more than two days in February.
Minnesota State University State Moorhead President Tim Downs announced Wednesday the university will expand the North Star Promise program to students who meet the same criteria in North Dakota and South Dakota, the Fargo Forum reports.
Also from the Forum: Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange both won Academy Awards for their roles in “Tootsie” in 1983. But that’s not all they have in common. They also both lived in Fargo 20 years earlier, just miles apart.
The Seed Library is back. Gardeners can stop by Fargo’s main library and the Dr. James Carlson Library for up to five free packets of herb, flower and vegetable seeds.
Gardeners can also now apply for the Community Garden Grant through the City of Moorhead. Four community gardens on private land, run by individuals or groups, can earn $500 for the effort.
The Moorhead Ice Show is Sunday at 1 p.m. Skaters of all ages (as young as 3 years old) are performing.
It’s spring (and feels like winter), so how about we think about summer? North Dakota’s Renaissance Fairs are set for four weekends: two at the North Dakota Horse Park in June and two at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds in August.
The Fargo Junk Spring Market is on Saturday. The Kicks Band of Fargo Moorhead performs Sunday. The Fargo Winter Blues Festival is next Wednesday.
