December and November saw record-breaking weather extremes. And although January may feel cooler, it’s still above average. These warmer temps have coalesced into making 2023 the eighth-warmest year on record in Minnesota.
According to retired meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley, stations around the state are reporting early January temperatures that are ranging from 8 to 12 degrees above normal. Additionally, snowfall has also been light with reports of less than 1 inch of snow cover.
MPR New host Cathy Wurzer and Seeley recapped the (temperature) highs and lows of the year in their weekly weather chat.
