Today in Fargo-Moorhead: A win on ice for Minnesota hockey, a loss on ice for anglers

Hello, flurries! More snow is likely through the weekend, with high temperatures falling from 32 degrees Friday — then waking up to snow on Saturday — to 19 on Sunday.

I’m sure you know (or are) someone who lost power during that ice storm last week. Meet one family near Valley City who went 10 days without electricity (but with their beloved pizza oven).

Minnesota’s new Professional Women’s Hockey League team won its debut game on Wednesday night, beating host Boston 3-2.

Moorhead’s very own MPR News reporter Dan Gunderson’s latest: A trapper recently took the unusual step of giving CPR to an animal caught in a trap in Beltrami County. A Department of Natural Resources conservation officer helped release the revived and “very angry” pine marten.

In other Beltrami County news, this warmer-than-average winter has seen numerous rescues as hopeful anglers venture onto thin, unstable lake ice.

The Frostival’s arrival is near (Jan. 13 to Feb. 24)! It’s six weeks of celebrating the chilliness of where we live with cardboard sled races, snow golf and snow sculpture competitions.

See American Idol stars Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken at the Fargo Theatre on Thursday night.
