It’s been a rain-filled October, with many daily rainfall total records broken. But the rain switched to snow for parts of northern Minnesota and North Dakota Thursday, reminding us that winter is right around the corner.

While this week’s rainfall wasn’t included in the U.S. Drought Monitor, it will likely make a major dent on lingering dryness, according to retired meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley.

He spoke with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer about the wet weather and above-average temperatures in their weekly weather chat on Friday’s Morning Edition.
