Drought conditions continue to worsen in Minnesota. Some places in the state showed a 7 to 12 percent precipitation deficit this week.

Above-average temperatures and the lack of rain are taking a toll on the state’s crops. Currently, 20 percent or more of the state’s corn and soybean crops are in poor to very poor conditions.

Forecasted rain for the weekend could bring some relief. MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with retired meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley about the drought and more in this week’s weather chat.
