In April, wildflower chasers Kelly Povo and Phyllis Root set off to find early bloomers pushing through the thawed ground. The number of flowers sprouting in the colder-than-average spring was minimal but one stood out.
The pale-petaled hepatica peaked through fallen leaves at the Townsend Woods Scientific and Natural Area. Povo and Root discovered hepatica cropping up, along with other flowers on their hunt.
