An MPR listener noted that after last year’s very windy January, this month seems much quieter in comparison.

Retired University of Minnesota climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley looked back in the history books and confirmed that it is, in fact, less windy this January than last.

Last January, climate stations at MSP airport, Rochester and Redwood Falls recorded 14, 16, and 18 days with wind gusts of 30 miles per hour or more. So far this month, they’ve recorded just 2, 3, and 3 days, respectively. Seeley talked about the wind and other weather topics with MPR News host Cathy Wurzer in their weekly chat.
