Wintry weather in the mix for Minnesota on Friday

A major winter storm will dump snow across much of the region on Friday.

Retired University of Minnesota climatologist and meteorologist Mark Seeley told MPR News host Cathy Wurzer that it’s a good day to be aware of the weather, particularly for people traveling in southern parts of Minnesota. He said the National Weather Service is predicting heavy snowfall.

“Eight to 10 inches in some areas of the state, notably southwestern and south central areas,” he said. “Eastern sections will probably end up with 1 to 3 or 2 to 4 [inches], or something like that. And very, very northern areas of the state will probably either get entirely missed or only slightly grazed by this storm."
