International leaders are condemning the ongoing violence in Myanmar. The country's military seized control in a coup in February, imposing internet blackouts, firing on protesters and arresting thousands. Hundreds of people have been reported dead.
What can often get lost in the headlines is the human experience of living through such sudden destabilization. One couple who knows that all too well is Molly Aung and her wife, LaMin MoeThae Aung.
Molly, a St. Paul native, met LaMin while teaching at an international school in Myanmar. They are now trying to get to safety in the U.S., but the process is complicated by the fact that LaMin is not yet a U.S. citizen.
