New report details Derek Chauvin’s career, background

Derek Chauvin is now known worldwide as the former Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck as Floyd begged for his life.

Despite the notoriety, little has emerged publicly about Chauvin's life and career leading up to the day of Floyd's death. On Saturday, the New York Times published a lengthy report outlining some of those details. It paints a portrait of Chauvin as an intense workaholic, with few close friends.

MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with one of the report’s authors, investigative reporter Serge Kovaleski, to learn more about Chauvin’s background.
